Powers to Present Address on State of the University at The University of Texas at Austin Wednesday, Sept. 15

William Powers Jr., president of The University of Texas at Austin, will deliver his fifth President's State of the University Address at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, providing a report on ongoing and new initiatives of the university's administration and highlighting accomplishments of the university as it celebrates its 127th birthday.

The university opened its doors on Sept. 15, 1883.

The program, which is open to the public, will be in the B. Iden Payne Theatre of the F. Loren Winship Drama Building near the corner of San Jacinto and 23rd streets.

The president's report also will be broadcast live Sept. 15 on the Web and on campus cable channels 11 and 13. The live streaming for the program will begin at 3:45 p.m. RealPlayer (free download) is needed to view the live webcast.

Powers is the 28th president of The University of Texas at Austin. Before taking office on Feb. 1, 2006, he was dean of the university's School of Law, where he won recognition for recruiting a world-class faculty and attracting highly diverse and talented students. He delivered his inaugural address on the state of the university on Sept. 19, 2006.
