Last month Women’s Track and Field head coach Beverly Kearney was one of seven extraordinary legends in music, literature, entertainment, media, service and education to be honored at the fifth consecutive BET Honors gala at the historic Warner Theater in Washington, D.C.

BET will broadcast the awards show Monday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. Central.

The 2012 honorees include renowned poet/author Dr. Maya Angelou (literary arts), internationally acclaimed musician Stevie Wonder (musical arts), Grammy Award-winning songstress Mariah Carey (entertainer), influential filmmaker Spike Lee (media), the heroic Tuskegee Airmen (service) and Kearney, the inspirational coach and mentor (education).

Actress Gabrielle Union hosted the star-studded affair, which also featured an on-stage appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama.

“There is not an honoree who I don’t feel a connection to. It’s truly an amazing group of people,” Kearney said. “I am humbled and inspired. For me, this is the highest honor I’ve been given. I’m blessed to be among such great individuals.”
