Early Childhood Education Briefing: Economic ROI for Austin

Following President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech, high-quality universal preschool education for all young children is the focus of renewed attention. The United Way for Greater Austin invites the Austin media to join early childhood education advocates on Tuesday, March 19, and learn more about how universal preschool will impact Austin’s families and future.

The United Way for Greater Austin invites the Austin media to join early childhood education advocates on Tuesday, March 19, and learn more about how universal preschool will impact Austin’s families and future.

A panel of experts and public policy leaders from The University of Texas at Austin and the United Way for Greater Austin will discuss the long-term effects of high-quality early education and economic return on investment (ROI) as well as the advantages pre-kindergarten has for all students, particularly those most economically vulnerable.

Gershoff examines how enriched early childhood educational environments can improve the lives of low-income children and their families.

Elliot Tucker-Drob assistant professor, Psychology, The University of Texas at Austin
Tucker-Drob explores the developmental dynamics through which genes and social and educational experiences combine and interact to influence cognitive development, personality development and academic achievement.

Aletha Huston professor emeritus, Human Development and Family Sciences, The University of Texas at Austin; vice chair, Success by 6 Leadership Council
Huston specializes in understating the effects of poverty on children and the effects of child care and income support policies on children’s development.
