In an effort to further extend teacher training and educational development to international markets, the Global Initiative for Education and Leadership at The University of Texas at Austin is helping to organize the Gulf Education Conference and Exhibition (GECE) on June 19-20 at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in London.
In its third year, the GECE offers a special focus on education in the Middle East and North Africa.
Founded by UTeach-Liberal Arts, the UT Global Initiative is a consortium of recognized training programs at The University of Texas at Austin that delivers high-quality teacher training, executive education and English as second language instruction. Partners include the Alhambra-U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Aspen Institute’s Partners for a New Beginning program, as well as the university’s UTeach-Liberal Arts program, Human Dimensions of Organizations and the IC2 Institute.
“The UT Global Initiative leverages the enormous teacher training and educational development capacities of UT Austin to create and enhance educational opportunities around the world,” says Richard Flores, senior associate dean for the College of Liberal Arts and executive director of the UT Global Initiative. “The Middle East has been a significant focus for us and, by bringing so many key regional education players together, GECE was a natural partner.”
Flores will be giving a presentation at the conference and promoting the UT Global Initiative. His talk will examine new methods for advancing study abroad curricula and credentials for international students. He will be joined by Anjum Malik, managing director of the Alhambra-U.S. Chamber of Commerce and UT Global’s director of marketing and public relations.
“UT’s Global Initiative has established a strong presence in the Middle East and North Africa in a very short time,” said Mohammed Abdelkhalig, event director for exhibition. “We know UT’s reputation, and we have seen the Global Initiative in action. Their educational expertise, contacts and organizational experience make them a valuable strategic partner for the event.”
The initiative is one of many efforts that highlight UT Austin’s growing global reach. Also, this month, the university signed a partnership agreement with the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education, and a UT Austin research center in Guatemala hosted Secretary of State John Kerry for a visit.
