Jocelyn Shiuan Lai (BS ’08), one of four University of Texas at Austin students named 2009 Most Promising Minority Student by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), has been named an AAF Advertising Hall of Achievement Fellow.

Lai was one of four students to receive a $2,500 fellowship in recognition of her academic and leadership achievements. She graduated in December after earning her bachelor’s degree in advertising in the TexasMedia program with a minor in Chinese. Among her many accomplishments as an undergraduate, she was president of Texas Advertising Group (TAG) for two years and increased its membership by more than 110 percent.

While attending the AAF awards event in New York City, Lai was recruited by JCPenney where she now works as a project analyst for the online business, jcp.com, in which she is helping rebrand the company through digital efforts, such as creating a positive and memorable experience for online shoppers.

AAF’s Most Promising Minority Students Program recognizes the nation’s top minority college seniors in the areas of advertising, communications, marketing and media, and helps place them in jobs in the advertising industry, which is striving to recruit fresh talent that will better reflect today’s multicultural society.
