Awards by Hispanic Faculty/Staff Association to be presented Wednesday, June 14, at The University of Texas at Austin

AUSTIN, Texas—The Hispanic Faculty/Staff Association (HFSA) of The University of Texas at Austin will honor its outstanding members from the faculty and staff during an awards and officer induction ceremony Wednesday, June 14, in Main 212.

AUSTIN, Texas—The Hispanic Faculty/Staff Association (HFSA) of The University of Texas at Austin will honor its outstanding members from the faculty and staff during an awards and officer induction ceremony Wednesday, June 14, in Main 212.

The HFSA faculty and staff awards recognize outstanding contributions and leadership benefiting the university community and the organization. Associate Professor Angela Valenzuela of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education, will be recognized as the 2005-06 HFSA Faculty Member of the Year. Annela M. Lopez, senior administrative associate in the Office of the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, will be honored as the 2005-06 HFSA Staff Member of the Year.

Also during the meeting, the HFSA Faculty/Staff Professional Development Award will be presented to Maria Graciela Pratt, learning specialist with the UT Learning Center. The award provides $250 for the organization member to pursue educational or skills development programs in the interest of promoting professional development.

The HFSA each year also raises money toward a scholarship fund benefiting students at The University of Texas at Austin. An update on the academic status of current recipients of the HFSA—Jamail/Long Challenge Grant Scholarship will be provided during the event.

New HFSA officers to be inducted during the meeting are: Professor José Luis Montiel, faculty co-president; Luis Guevara, staff co-president; Graciela Pratt, treasurer; Betty García and Stephanie Valdez Peña, co-historians; Rosa Treviño-Boiko, recorder; Juanita Rodríguez, public relations coordinator; Professor Alba Ortiz, faculty co-president elect; and Diane Higginbotham, staff co-president-elect.
