Canada’s first female prime minister to speak at The University of Texas at Austin, March 5

Kim Campbell, the first female prime minister of Canada, will discuss women’s political participation from 1-2 p.m., March 5 at Welch Hall, Room 1.316 at The University of Texas at Austin.

AUSTIN, Texas—Kim Campbell, the first female prime minister of Canada, will discuss women’s political participation from 1-2 p.m., March 5 at Welch Hall, Room 1.316 at The University of Texas at Austin.

The lecture is part of Professor Gretchen Ritter’s Government class, Women, Gender and Politics. Additional seating will be available to the public.

Campbell was Canada’s first female prime minister in 1993 and received the highest approval rating for that position in 30 years. She was the first female minister of justice and attorney general of Canada, as well as the first woman to be minister of national defense for Canada. Campbell is a visiting professor of practice at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and serves on numerous boards, including the International Women’s Forum, a global organization of women who defend women’s rights.

The lecture is part of the Siebert Profiles in Leadership lecture series and is sponsored by the Muriel Siebert Foundation, Center for Women’s Studies and The Liberal Arts Council of the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.
