Event: Chevron will announce $230,000 in gifts to the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. Immediately following will be a demonstration of the Applied Computational Engineering and Sciences Visualization Laboratory (Vislab).

When: Sept. 4, 10:30 a.m.

Where: The University of Texas at Austin, Vislab, ACES Building 2.404A

Background: Jim Green, general manager of Technical Computing, Chevron Energy Technology Co., will present checks of $130,000 and $100,000 to TACC and the McCombs School of Business for technology training.

TACC operates some of the world’s largest supercomputing systems, visualization displays and massive data storage systems. Researchers throughout the country are using TACC’s resources for breakthroughs across all scientific disciplines. Chevron’s gift will help TACC share its Scientific Computing Curriculum, already taught to University of Texas at Austin students, with other colleges and universities, as well as people already in the workforce.

The $100,000 gift to the McCombs School will be used to purchase server hardware and renovate the school’s McCombs MIS Connectivity Lab, an innovative teaching center that gives students experience with data-communication technologies. The gift will enable the school to teach students about the latest networking and information technologies used in the business world.
