Event: The Courtyard Gallery, an art exhibition space in the ATandT Executive Education and Conference Center at The University of Texas at Austin, will host an opening reception to celebrate its fall exhibition “Kenneth J. Hale: New works from Carmel, CA,” featuring digital and collage works on paper by College of Fine Arts Professor and Senior Associate Dean Kenneth Hale.

When: Opening reception: Thursday, Sept. 24, 4-6 p.m.

Exhibition runs from Tuesday, Sept. 1 – Friday, Jan. 29

Where: The Courtyard Gallery is on the 2nd level of the ATandT Executive Education and Conference Center, 1900 University Ave. A campus map is available online. The exhibition space is adjacent to the courtyard.

Background: This exhibition of new work produced in summer 2009 showcases Hale’s pursuits with digital and collage works on paper evolving from his series, “Now and Then” and “The Same Only Different.” There will be an essay about Hale’s work provided by Department of Art and Art History doctoral candidate Laura Lindenberger Wellen.

All of the works in the Courtyard Gallery exhibitions are for sale through the gift shop. The artist will donate a portion of funds from purchases to underwrite an undergraduate travel scholarship for a student in printmaking to attend the Southern Graphics Conference in honor of his friend and former colleague, artist Robert Anderson.

Hale’s paintings, prints and drawings have been widely exhibited and collected. His prints are represented in collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, The National Museum of American Art, the McNay Art Museum, the Chicago Art Institute, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas, among many other highly recognized museums and institutes.

The Courtyard Gallery is a collaborative effort between the Office of the Vice President for University Operations, which is a liaison between the university and the Conference Center, and the College of Fine Arts. There will be three faculty and alumni exhibitions a year in this space curated by Creative Research Laboratory Gallery Director Jade Walker. The Courtyard Gallery features the artwork of faculty and alumni of the Department of Art and Art History in the College of Fine Arts.
