AUSTIN, Texas—A celebration in El Paso welcoming incoming freshmen to The University of Texas at Austin provided an opportunity for parents to talk with President Larry R. Faulkner and other UT Austin delegates about their hopes and dreams for the students they are sending to the University.
Faulkner and members of his delegation attending the El Paso Send-Off 2001 celebration on Tuesday (June 19) answered questions about student financial aid, admissions, housing and food, and academics at the University. The celebration was sponsored by the El Paso Ex-Students’ Association.
"We want to do everything possible to make your freshman year a meaningful, productive, and enjoyable experience. Last year we had 876 students from El Paso County enrolled at UT. So you will see some recognizable faces in Austin," Faulkner said. He told the guests that for the coming academic year, UT Austin will administer total financial aid to students from El Paso in the amount of $5.5 million in grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study assistance.
"We are committed to recruiting the bright students of El Paso to prepare them for lives of accomplishment," Faulkner said.
