Global Venture Labs Investment Competition Caps Venture Week, May 4-7

The Global Venture Labs Investment Competition (Global VLIC), the longest-running investment competition for graduate student entrepreneurs, will be held May 6-7 at The University of Texas at Austin. The event is the culmination of Venture Week, May 4-7, which includes a series of events for entrepreneurs, investors, business professionals, students and faculty designed to showcase the growing climate of entrepreneurship at the university.

The Global Venture Labs Investment Competition (Global VLIC), the longest-running investment competition for graduate student entrepreneurs, will be held May 6-7 at The University of Texas at Austin. The event is the culmination of Venture Week, May 4-7, which includes a series of events for entrepreneurs, investors, business professionals, students and faculty designed to showcase the growing climate of entrepreneurship at the university.

“Venture Week reflects the new nature of innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship at The University of Texas at Austin,” said Rob Adams, director of Texas Venture Labs, which hosts Venture Week. “This event brings together the business community, campus initiatives and students from around the world, all focusing on the launching of successful companies.”

Venture Week is open to the public and includes:

Texas Venture Labs Expo – A showcase of new ventures from across the university ready for commercialization and funding.

Entrepreneur Success Track – A panel of former Global VLIC competitors who will share stories of success and lessons learned from failure to students and aspiring entrepreneurs to help them frame and improve their future ventures.

Global Business Education Track – A program of speakers who will offer insight on institution-driven entrepreneurship, including MBA programs and business plan competitions.

Venture Showcase – A tradeshow-style showcase of all 40 teams competing in Global VLIC.

Global Venture Labs Investment Competition – The “Super Bowl of business plan competitions,” which features 40 teams who gained eligibility by winning a regional new venture competition in the U.S. or internationally. The teams hail from 12 countries, including the U.S., Thailand, Norway and Brazil, and will compete over two days to determine the Global Champion.

Texas Venture Labs is an interdisciplinary education and research initiative at The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. It was created to support entrepreneurship, innovation and company formation while providing a unique and directly applicable educational experience for students and a research environment for faculty. Venture Labs promotes new venture creation at the university through education and mentoring, market and business plan validation, team-building and networking, and direct links to resources and funding.
