Background: The University of Texas Libraries kicks off a new season of its Science Study Break program with comics writer Jim Ottaviani discussing his graphic novel biography “Feynman” on the life of Nobel laureate and nuclear physicist Richard Feynman. Famous as a popular author and speaker on physics, Feynman (1918-1988) worked on development of the atomic bomb and the investigation of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. He won the Nobel Prize in 1965 for his work on quantum electrodynamics.
Ottaviani is the author of several comic books about the history of science, including “Two-Fisted Science: Stories About Scientists,” which features biographical stories about Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton and Niels Bohr. He is also a librarian at the University of Michigan and a former nuclear engineer.
