AUSTIN, Texas — Patricia C. Ohlendorf, a vice provost who has served as adviser to The University of Texas at Austin president on legal and policy matters, has been named vice president for administration and legal affairs. Her appointment was announced Friday (May 1) by President Larry R. Faulkner and is effective June 1.

Ohlendorf will act as the president’s chief of staff and coordinator of operations. She also will oversee several areas, including legal activities, athletics, public affairs, governmental relations and the UT Quality Center.

“Over a long period of time, Patricia Ohlendorf has served the University with extraordinary ability and judgment in a great many sensitive arenas,” said Faulkner, who assumed his new post as UT Austin president April 13. “She fully merits this promotion. I am delighted that she is available to take on an enlarged role, and I look forward to collaborating with her in furthering the UniversityÌs interests in the years ahead.”

Ohlendorf’s appointment covers the remaining responsibilities held by departing Vice President Ed Sharpe, who is leaving the University to become vice chancellor for academic affairs for the UT System. Late last month, Faulkner named Dr. James Hill to the position of vice president for human resources and community relations.

“The University is extremely important to my family and me,” said Ohlendorf, a 1977 graduate of the UT law school. “I am delighted with this opportunity to broaden my University experience, to support Larry Faulkner’s presidency and to help advance the University’s agenda.”

As vice provost and counsel to the president, Ohlendorf coordinates legal activities and has responsibilities in matters of institutional policy, planning, evaluation and administration. She oversees the Office of Technology Licensing and Intellectual Property and the Office of Internal Audits. She also sits on many University committees, serving as chairman of the Committee on the Advancement of Women and the Committee on Computer and Information Technology Use Policies.

Ohlendorf will continue in these roles in addition to her new duties overseeing Intercollegiate Athletics for Men, Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, the Office of Public Affairs and the UT Quality Center.
