Ticket information

This is an invitation only event. However, a limited number of tickets will be available to students at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Texas Union. A valid UT student ID card will be required. Deans and vice presidents have been provided a very limited number of tickets for faculty and staff.

ASL Interpreters are available for deaf and hearing impaired individuals upon request.

University of Texas at Austin student ticket information

There are a limited number of tickets designated for University of Texas at Austin students. All tickets to the speech are free on a first come, first served basis. The ticket limit is one ticket per person. Requests for advance tickets, group tickets, will call or mailed tickets will not be accepted.

In order to be eligible to receive a ticket, students must present a valid UT Austin student ID card. Students may only pick up a ticket for themselves. Only one ticket per student will be issued.

As early as 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, a line will be allowed to form in front of the Union’s exterior doors to the East Patio (area between the Union and the Flawn Academic Center).

Students choosing to stand in line should be prepared to be self-sufficient regarding food and water.

Location information

Gregory Gym will be closed Aug. 9 until 30 minutes after the conclusion of the event. Some Gregory Gym facilities will be unavailable Saturday through Tuesday to accommodate the event. For more information about facility closures and hours, visit the Division of Recreational Sports Web site.

Parking disruptions

General parking information for the event can be found on the Parking and Transportation Services Web site.

Beginning 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, parking on 21st Street from San Jacinto Boulevard to Speedway will be entirely closed to all traffic. All parking on San Jacinto Boulevard from Martin Luther King Boulevard to 21st Street will also be closed and unavailable for parking. San Jacinto Boulevard will remain open as a thoroughfare and all parking will be available north of 21st Street. This closure will affect parking for San Jacinto Boulevard between Martin Luther King Boulevard and 21st Street for the entire day.

All cars must be cleared from 21st Street between San Jacinto Boulevard and Speedway and San Jacinto Boulevard between Martin Luther King Boulevard and 21st Street by 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, or they will be subject to towing. All locations will reopen and parking will be available by Tuesday, Aug. 10.

There will be a temporary disruption of mainline and UT shuttle service starting Sunday, Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. through Monday, Aug. 9 at 10 p.m. UT shuttle and Capital Metro mainline routes and stops along 21st Street between San Jacinto Boulevard and Guadalupe Street will be affected.

For “A” permit holders: Beginning at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, 21st Street from San Jacinto Blvd. to Speedway will be entirely closed to all traffic for President Barack Obama’s visit.  All parking on San Jacinto Blvd. from MLK to 21st Street will be unavailable as well.  San Jacinto Blvd. will remain open as a thoroughfare and all parking north of 21st Street on San Jacinto Blvd. will be available. This closure will impact parking for “A” Permit holders on San Jacinto south of 21st Street from 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, until two hours after the completion of the event on Monday, Aug. 9.  All cars must be cleared from this area by 5 p.m. on Sunday or they will be subject to towing.  All locations will reopen and “A” permit parking will again be available by Tuesday, Aug. 10.

If any “A” permit holder is unable to find available parking during this disruption, you may park in the Trinity Garage (TRG), located on the corner of MLK and Trinity, at no charge.  You may validate your entry ticket for exiting at any time prior to 9 p.m. by taking your paper entry ticket and your UT ID to the centrally located office, inside the garage, for a no-charge exit validation.

An event ticket will be required for no charge parking in the Brazos Garage, located on the corner of MLK and Brazos Street.

More information will be distributed prior to the end of the business day Friday, Aug. 6.
