Statement on Proposed Cost Savings at The University of Texas

By implementing a shared services model and by modernizing its administrative systems, The University of Texas at Austin expects to eliminate about 500 positions during the next five years out of a workforce of some 12,000 staff members. This will save between $30 million and $40 million a year in perpetuity. The vast majority of the reductions in staff will be accomplished through natural attrition and retirement.
