University of Texas Elementary School accepting applications for 2004-2005 school year

The University of Texas Elementary School at 2200 E. 6th Street in east Austin has begun accepting applications for students who quality for admission for the 2004-2005 school year.

AUSTIN, Texas—The University of Texas Elementary School (UTES) at 2200 E. 6th Street in east Austin has begun accepting applications for students who qualify for admission for the 2004-2005 school year.

School officials said the application process began March 8 and continues through April 2. Enrollment is limited by class size each year and is available to children living in zip codes including 78702, 78721, 78722, 78723 and 78741.

Principal Ramona Treviño said there are a few openings for students in kindergarten, first and second grades. The school also will be taking 30 newstudents in pre-kindergarten.

She said applicants for pre-kindergarten must be four years old by September 1 to attend and must meet state eligibility requirements for pre-kindergarten.These include qualifying for free or reduced priced meals, qualifying for thebilingual program, or homelessness. Parents who currently have students enrolledat UTES will be guaranteed placement of a younger sibling. For this nextyear only, the UTES Management Board has approved entrance with tuition fora younger sibling who does not meet the state Pre-K eligibility requirements.

Documentation needed for registration includes a parent picture identification, the child’s social security card, the child’s birth certificate,proof of income and proof of residency or a utility bill.

The school will hold a lottery for entrance if it has more applicants than openings. If needed, the lottery time and date for applicants for grades K-2 will be at 6:30 p.m. on April 6.

Pre-kindergarten will be two half-day sessions. Child care will be available on site for the remainder of the day with a fee scale based on family income. Parents with questions regarding applications for next school year may call Maria Dingley at 512-495-9705.
