AUSTIN, Texas—Winners of the 2006 Global Moot Corp Competition hosted by The University of Texas at Austin will open the NASDAQ stock market Friday, Aug. 11 in New York City at 9:30 a.m. EDT.

The NeuroLife™ Noninvasive Solutions team from Carnegie Mellon University, which earned the title and the $100,000 prize package May 6, will share the honors with Rob Adams, director of the Moot Corp program.

“The national exposure of opening NASDAQ further enhances the reputation of the winner and adds tremendously to the excitement of being named the global champion,” said Adams, a management lecturer at the McCombs School of Business.

NeuroLife will attempt to commercialize the world’s first noninvasive intracranial pressure (ICP) diagnostic device, designed to be a faster, safer and easier way to measure ICP through the patient’s eye. Team members include Adil Wali, Ernest Braxton and Franco D. Harris. Tom Emerson is the faculty adviser.

“NeuroLife Noninvasive Solutions is pleased to have won the 2006 Moot Corp competition and especially honored to have the opportunity to open the NASDAQ,” Braxton said. “Moving forward, the knowledge and resources imparted from Moot Corp will be invaluable as we build our company.”

Started at The University of Texas at Austin by Master of Business Administration students in 1984, the Moot Corp Competition is the oldest and largest new venture competition in the world, and it provides MBA student teams with a chance to simulate the process of raising venture capital. This year, 33 teams from universities around the world traveled to Austin for the competition.

The ceremony will be carried live on NASDAQ’s Web site (MarketSite Live Webcam, bottom of the page, 9:25 a.m. EDT, Windows Media Player required). On television, NASDAQ’s opening is carried on CNBC, Bloomberg and CNNfn.

High-resolution photographs of the NASDAQ opening are available online to the media.
