Herb Miller, senior lecturer in the Department of Marketing in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, will be recognized May 10 by the Texas State House of Representatives for his receipt of a Texas Exes Teaching Award.
House Resolution 1368 honoring Miller was introduced by State Rep. Eddie Lucio III of Brownsville.
“As a former student of Mr. Miller, I could not think of anyone more deserving of such a recognition,” said Lucio. “I have always admired his noteworthy career and his passion for teaching. He played such an influential role in my own development as a business undergrad, and I am extremely thankful for his mentorship.”
“Concerned for his students as individuals, Herb Miller cares as much about their success in life as their success in business, and he believes that efforts in behalf of the greater good play an important role in attaining such a goal,” the resolution reads.
The Texas Exes, the university’s alumni association, annually honors a faculty member and graduate instructor in each school and college who has had a positive influence on the educational experience of students. Miller, who has been on the faculty at McCombs since 1994, received his award and $1,000 at a ceremony Feb. 8.
“The selection committee decided on Herb because of his industry experience, his incorporation of his experience into the classroom, the enthusiasm with which he teaches and his ability to point students down the right track in their careers.” said Jeffrey Stevens, junior finance major and member of the award selection committee from the Undergraduate Business Council.
