Hundreds of course-related videos from The University of Texas at Austin are now available on iTunes U. The 689 videos are spread across 23 collections and include academic subject matter as diverse as engineering, biology and history.
The University of Texas at Austin on iTunes U provides faculty members and staffers an avenue for publishing their educational material and serves as an additional learning tool for current and prospective students. The effort is part of the university’s overall strategy to offer students and the public multiple channels to access online educational content.
The university’s collections on iTunes U are split into two sections: Academic Collections that include archived course lectures, and Featured Collections that include informational videos with university experts. The collections are made up of lectures, video series and other course-related materials, and content is contributed by schools and departments on campus, including the Cockrell School of Engineering, Liberal Arts IT Services, the Colleges of Education and Natural Sciences, and the Center for Teaching and Learning.
ITunes U, part of Apple’s iTunes, can be accessed via the iTunes application on a computer or the iTunes U app on iOS mobile devices. It is a free service that allows schools to upload and manage their educational multimedia material for users to view. ITunes is available to download on Windows and Mac operating systems.
The University of Texas at Austin joins Texas AandM University, Baylor University and the University of North Texas, among other Texas colleges and universities, in using iTunes U. The university’s presence on iTunes U is sponsored by University Communications, the Office of the Provost and the Center for Teaching and Learning.
