UT Opens Off-Campus Lab Space for Private Sector to Accelerate Life Sciences Research

AUSTIN, Texas — Discovery to Impact at The University of Texas at Austin has opened UT Innovation Labs, a state-of-the-art 10,000-square-foot wet lab for groundbreaking advancements in health care and life sciences. The facility, located in North Austin, provides the private sector lab space and direct access to UT’s world-class Research Core Facilities to move discoveries out of the lab and into the world to have lasting impact and deepens the University’s commitment to accelerating life sciences technology development.

“We are excited to open the doors to UT Innovation Labs and welcome the next era of innovation in Austin underpinned by UT Austin’s academic leadership,” said Mark Arnold, associate vice president, Discovery to Impact. “UT Innovation Labs serves as a launchpad for companies that are merging the power of computation and AI with the intricacies of life sciences to bring to market products and treatments that will transform health care and benefit society.”

Designed to support the expansive growth of life sciences in the greater Austin community and across the nation, UT Innovation Labs provides innovators with direct access to Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and renowned faculty expertise. Companies that join UT Innovation Labs also receive access to Discovery to Impact’s resources for entrepreneurs, including business development support, technical expertise, mentorship and educational programming.

The new wet lab features top-of-the-line equipment, such as the Agilent Cytation C10 Confocal Imaging Reader with enhanced cell imaging and analysis to provide researchers with the most accurate and efficient data. The flexible, modular lab space also includes 33 benches with innovative technology for cell culture and computational biology, office and meeting spaces, and a dining area.
