Sheldon Ekland-Olson named new UT provost

Dr. Sheldon Ekland-Olson, dean of the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin, has been named executive vice president and provost at The University of Texas at Austin. The appointment was made Friday (Sept. 18) by UT President Larry R. Faulkner and is effective Nov. 1.

University officials from Mexico visit UT Austin

Sept. 17, 1998

Dr. Francisco Jose Barnes de Castro, Rector of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), and a team of the university's vice presidents and deans visited The University of Texas at Austin campus on Sept. 3. Barnes met with UT Austin President Larry R. Faulkner and other University officials to discuss the development of closer working relationships on academic programs of mutual interest. A reception was held to welcome the Mexican visitors to the campus.

UT Austin 12th class day enrollment figures released

Sept. 14, 1998

Enrollment at The University of Texas at Austin is 48,917 this fall, a total that indicates the University may retain its ranking as the largest single-campus institution in the country. The total includes 37,211 undergraduate, 10,330 graduate and 1,376 law students, and represents a slight increase over last fall's total of 48,857.

Goldenberg withdraws her acceptance as UT provost

Sept. 14, 1998

President Larry R. Faulkner of The University of Texas at Austin announced today that Dr. Edie N. Goldenberg, recently named executive vice president and provost, has withdrawn her acceptance and will not assume duties in Austin. Goldenberg recently has encountered health problems requiring treatment over time.

Terry Wilson named executive directorof UT Austin's Office of Community Relations

Terry Wilson, who has served as associate director of the Office of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin for the past five years, has been appointed executive director of the University's Office of Community Relations.
