Amÿrico Paredes honored at State Capitol

UT Austin's Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and Folklore, Americo Paredes, received the lifetime achievement award Nov. 14 at the Capitol during the opening session for the Texas Book Festival. Laura Bush, first lady of Texas and honorary chair of the festival, presented the award, accompanied by singer/songwriter Tish Hinojosa and UT Austin Professor Rolando Hinojosa-Smith. Paredes, 82, is a founder of Mexican American studies, border studies and the post-modern movement in anthropology.

UT officials to visit Laredo high school students, encouraging seniors to apply for admission
