Background Summary
“Campus carry” is the common name for a state law, S.B. 11, that applies to all public universities in Texas. The law provides that state license holders may carry a concealed handgun throughout university campuses, as of Aug. 1, 2016. The law gives public universities some discretion to regulate campus carry.
UT Austin’s application of the state law is described in detail on the university’s Campus Carry website. Please see the website for detailed information.
