Background Summary
The university’s statue of former Texas Governor James Stephen Hogg will be re-installed at a new campus location in December of 2018. It will be located between the Main Building and the Will C. Hogg Building, which is named for Governor Hogg’s son, who was a supporter and advocate for The University of Texas.
In late August 2017, the Hogg statue was removed from its original location on the South Mall along with statues of three former confederate leaders: Robert E. Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston, John Reagan. The Lee, Johnston and Reagan statues were placed to the collections of the university’s Briscoe Center for American History.
President Gregory L. Fenves stated at the time that the university planned to re-install the Hogg statue at another campus site.
