Event: Information Management 30th Anniversary Symposium and Dinner
When: “Into the Cloud” symposium, Friday, Nov. 5, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Celebration dinner, Saturday, Nov. 6, 6-9 p.m.
Where: University of Texas at Austin campus. The symposium takes place at the Texas Union, and the dinner is at the ATandT Executive Education and Conference Center.
Registration: Both events are open to the public. Registration is $125 for the symposium, $85 for the celebration dinner or $165 for both. Background: From social media to cloud computing, new technologies are changing the way businesses operate, and with those changes come a flood of opportunities and risks. The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business is hosting a one-day conference to address innovation and challenges in information technology (IT) Friday, Nov. 5, with faculty researchers and IT and management experts from some of the nation’s top companies. The event is open to the public.
Executives from IBM, Walmart, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, ConocoPhillips, Bazaarvoice and other companies are joining professors from McCombs’ Department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management for “Into the Cloud: Winning with Enterprise 2.0.”
Panels will focus on the opportunities, risks, data leverage and new business models enabled by cloud computing.
Keynote speaker Mark McDonald is the head of research for Gartner Executive Programs, where he sets Gartner’s global agenda for chief information officers (CIOs) and develops market-leading research supporting more than 3,500 CIO members.
The panel discussions will address questions such as:
- How secure will your applications and data be when your infrastructure is managed and protected by someone else?
- How is the cloud changing the way we do business?
- Is IT still the engine of innovation for new business products and services?
- How can companies get the most value from their data?
- How can organizations manage the risk yet leverage the potential that social networks offer?
- How are prediction analytics changing the way we make business decisions?
The symposium will be followed by a reception Saturday, Nov. 6, celebrating the 30th anniversary of McCombs’ information management program. The event will remember Professor Tim Ruefli, who died earlier this year, and honor Eleanor Jordan, founder of the management information systems undergraduate major, 30-year faculty member Rick Byars and world-renowned researcher Andrew Whinston, director of the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce.
