AUSTIN, Texas—Jesslyn Lu, a sophomore chemical engineering/Plan II major at The University of Texas at Austin, is one of 20 undergraduates from across the United States and Canada to be honored as a Goldman Sachs Global Leader at an award ceremony April 10 in New York City. She is among 100 second-year university students from 17 countries who will receive $3,000 and be recognized at similar ceremonies around the world this spring.
The Global Leaders were selected on the basis of their outstanding leadership and academic abilities. Last summer, Lu was selected to attend the DeBakey Summer Surgery Program, where she spent more than 400 hours participating in surgery, clinical rounds and conferences. She has also been the vice president of a pre-medical society and a freshman peer adviser.
The Goldman Sachs Foundation and its partner organization, the Institute of International Education, created the Global Leaders Program to identify and reward the academic excellence and leadership potential of 100 of the most accomplished second-year college students. The program aims to foster their leadership skills and prepare them for distinctive service to society.
