AUSTIN, Texas—Energy services company Halliburton has contributed $90,000 to support academic programs at The University of Texas at Austin, bringing the company’s total university giving to nearly $7 million.
The $90,000 targets programs serving students in the university’s Jackson School of Geosciences, College of Engineering and McCombs School of Business. One of the largest components of the donation is a $25,000 grant to the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering to sponsor a Halliburton outreach program the company calls Camp Bevo.
About three dozen students at the top of their class earn invitations to the camp, which is held each August. The aspiring engineers travel to the Halliburton Training Center in Duncan, Okla., where they are able to visit well sites and observe first-hand how field operations work.
University of Texas at Austin President William Powers Jr. said Halliburton’s support makes a top program even stronger.
"Our petroleum and geosystems engineering program is the best in the country," he said. "With ongoing support from Halliburton and innovative outreach programs such as Camp Bevo, we intend to remain the leader in this important field."
Halliburton, based in Houston, was founded in 1919 and today has operations in more than 120 countries.
