AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas and the department of intercollegiate athletics for men apologize to Mr. Luke Axtell, a freshman student athlete at the University. Academic information concerning Mr. Axtell was wrongfully released. This academic information should not have been released.
Further, the information inaccurately reflected Mr. Axtell’s grades and current academic status. Mr. Axtell was not academically ineligible under University rules and his scholarship was never in jeopardy. Mr. Axtell’s suspension from the team is lifted, and he is reinstated, effective immediately.
The University of Texas and the department of intercollegiate athletics for men sincerely regret any embarrassment this entire situation has caused Mr. Axtell and his family.
