University Reviews Public Disclosure of Academic Information

The University of Texas at Austin has completed its review of the public disclosure of academic information regarding a freshman student-athlete. We have been in touch with the student, his family and their attorney.

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas at Austin has completed its review of the public disclosure of academic information regarding a freshman student-athlete. We have been in touch with the student, his family and their attorney.

The University is taking the following steps:

  • We will talk with Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Eddie Oran when he returns to Austin from a recruiting trip. We will take appropriate disciplinary action for his authorization of the disclosure of academic information regarding the student-athlete.
  • The University and the departments of intercollegiate athletics will take steps to enhance the knowledge of, and compliance with, the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Written notices regarding our responsibilities under the Act will be distributed and the Act will be highlighted in training sessions and staff meetings.
  • The departments of intercollegiate athletics will develop written guidelines related to suspensions of student-athletes by coaches.The University appreciates the cooperation of all who assisted in the investigation of this matter.
