AUSTIN, Texas–Religion and feminism is the topic of an international conference, “Women of the Book: the changing face of feminism in Judaism, Christianity and Islam,” Nov. 9 and 10 at the Thompson Conference Center at The University of Texas at Austin. It is free and open to the public.
Speakers from Israel, Egypt and the United States will present papers on three panels–law, the family and religious practice. The first day’s session will consist of audience discussions with the speakers. The conference will end with a concert of music sacred to the three religious traditions.
Speakers will include Dr. Karen Jo Torgeson of Claremont College and author of When Women Were Priests; Dr. Rachel Biale, author of Women and Jewish Law; and Dr. Amina Wadud, author of Koran and Women.
