BACKGROUND:A memoir of a Mexican soldier in Santa Anna’s army, purchased recently by two anonymous bidders at a Los Angeles auction, has been donated to the Center for American History at UT Austin. The manuscript, which is an eyewitness account of the battle of the Alamo, contains a controversial account of Davy Crockett’s death.
The donors and the manuscript will be present at the press conference. UT President Larry R. Faulkner, the two donors, and Dr. Don E. Carleton, director of the center, will speak.
