AUSTIN, Texas—Students from throughout the Rio Grande Valley accepted as incoming freshmen to The University of Texas at Austin received a personal welcome recently during Send-Off ’99 celebrations attended by UT Austin President Larry R. Faulkner.
During send-off celebrations in Brownsville on June 14 and McAllen on June 15, Faulkner spoke to students and their parents about the wonderful opportunities their children will find in a university environment and how it will help transform their lives to benefit society. Traveling with Faulkner were representatives from the UT Austin offices of admissions, financial aid, admissions, as well as a delegate from the UT Ex Students Association.
Faulkner said the send-off provides him an opportunity to meet and welcome new students to UT Austin and to assure their parents the students are in good hands. The celebrations also are an opportunity to enhance and expand the University’s relationships with its many constituents, including educators and the business and professional community, he said.
For the next fall semester, UT Austin has admitted 134 students from the Lower Valley and 182 from the Upper Valley.
