UT Austin preliminary spring enrollment totals 46,484

The preliminary spring 2000 enrollment total at The University of Texas at Austin is 46,484, according to Marsha K. Moss, assistant vice president and director of the Office of Institutional Studies. This figure represents an increase of 127 students from the spring 1999 total.

AUSTIN, Texas—The preliminary spring 2000 enrollment total at The University of Texas at Austin is 46,484, according to Marsha K. Moss, assistant vice president and director of the Office of Institutional Studies. This figure represents an increase of 127 students from the spring 1999 total.

Analysis of the spring 2000 figures shows 35,091 undergraduate, 9,759 graduate and 1,634 law and Pharm. D. students enrolled. The total also consists of 23,129 females and 23,355 males.

Texas residents comprise 81.2 percent (81.1 percent in spring 1999) of the total enrollment, 10.6 percent (11 percent) come from other states in the United States, and 8.2% (7.8 percent) are foreign students.

The numbers of students in various ethnic groups this spring compared with spring 1999 are: 29,478 White (29,854 in spring 1999), 1,471 Black (1,525), 5,556 Hispanic (5,631), 5,680 Asian American (5,335) and 210 American Indian (227). There also are 3,816 foreign students (3,638) enrolled. Ethnicity was not known for 273 students (147).

The colleges with the largest undergraduate enrollments are: Liberal Arts 10,563 (10,651 in Spring 1999), Natural Sciences 7,756 (7,663), Engineering 4,373 (4,178), Business Administration 4,059 (4,068) and Communication 3,524 (3,625).

Final 12th class day figures will be available in early March.
