AUSTIN, Texas—President Larry R. Faulkner of The University of Texas at Austin and Executive Vice Chancellor Ed Sharpe of the UT System will visit top academic students in Brownsville high schools Tuesday morning (Nov. 21) before attending the Valley Honors Banquet Tuesday night. Faulkner and Sharpe each will lead a team of University representatives encouraging the high school students to strive for higher education. They will provide information and answer questions about the admissions process, student financial assistance, housing and other aspects of campus life.

“We are going to the Valley to salute the academic achievement of its talented students. The University has a special relationship with the schools of this region. Some of our finest students come from the Valley, and we hope to recruit even more this year,” said Faulkner.

Sharpe, the UT System’s executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, said, “There is tremendous potential among these talented young minds that should not be wasted. We want to join with their teachers and counselors in inspiring these students to reach that potential. We need these students to succeed and become leaders helping society to face the challenges of the future.”
