WHAT: The Tower of The University of Texas at Austin will be darkened at dusk on Friday (May 4) as part of UT Remembers, an annual day of remembrance honoring members of the UT Austin community who died in the previous year.
WHEN/WHERE: Friday (May 4)
- 9 a.m.- 9:15 a.m. Lowering of the Flags Ceremony, Main Mall. Coffee following ceremony.
- 9:15 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Hospitality Room (Texas Union Governor’s Room 3.116) available to families and friends while on campus.
- 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. UT Remembers service in the Tower Garden (located near the north entrance to the Main Building. (In case of inclement weather, the UT Remembers services will be in Hogg Auditorium, located just west of the Tower Garden.)
- Darkening of the Tower will begin at dusk.
BACKGROUND: UT Remembers is an annual day of remembrance honoring members of The University of Texas at Austin community who died in the previous year. It is designed to bring together families, friends, colleagues and co-workers who have experienced the recent loss of a UT Austin student or a current or retired faculty or staff member. UT Remembers 2001 honors the memory of those who died in the period from April 2000 to March 2001. UT Remembers is an annual program of UT CARES, a campus-wide committee formed in August 1996, for the purpose of providing assistance and support to our community in times of trauma or loss.
