AUSTIN, Texas—Larry R. Faulkner, president of The University of Texas at Austin, today (Jan. 7) called Oklahoma State University President James E. Halligan to express regret over the scuffle between Texas players and a spectator during Saturday’s Texas-Oklahoma State basketball game.

Faulkner also expressed concern for the young woman who was inadvertently struck by Texas player T.J. Ford as Ford dove off the court for a loose ball in the closing minutes of the game.

"The accidental collision between the player and spectator, and its aftermath, was a complicated and emotional situation," Faulkner said. "The individuals involved responded to the circumstances in an understandable, human manner.

"Men’s Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds, Women’s Athletics Director Chris Plonsky and I have also spoken about this matter. They are planning to use the occasion to remind all our athletes that they represent the university and must continue to consistently conduct themselves according to the highest standards."
