AUSTIN, TexasA native of Broomfield, Colo., Kelly Clark followed in the Longhorn footsteps of two brothers who attended The University of Texas at Austin.

“I have had a great experience,” he said. “I have enjoyed the art department professors and was constantly learning during my time here.”
His time as an undergraduate draws to a close this month. He will graduate with a bachelor of fine arts degree in studio art, with a specialization in printmaking. Clark, 21, finished his coursework in four years, including three summer semesters. He had high praise for associate professor Lee Chesney, who “taught me all the techniques about etching that I know.”
His preference for an art technique is etching either on zinc or copper, a process developed in Italy several centuries ago.
“During his senior year, Kelly Clark has clearly demonstrated that he is completed hooked on the processes of printmaking,” said Ken Hale, chair of the Department of Art and Art History. “His commitment to the technical issues involved in printmaking has been very impressive to observe.”
Clark has interned at Flatbed Press, a printmaking company where he has done support work in printmaking and etching. He would like to continue his employment there throughout this summer and into next fall. He also will begin applying to graduate schools to seek a master’s degree in printmaking.

A highlight of Clark’s senior year included helping to organize a departmental trade portfolio by inviting faculty, students and staff to each submit one of their prints, which were being collated and binded.
“We have gone to school with our colleagues, have been taught by these faculty and supported by these staff, so this will be a great remembrance for all of us to have,” Clark said.
