William and Bettye Nowlin to support photography program in Art and Art History

The Photography Program in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Austin will receive gifts totaling $800,000 from William and Bettye Nowlin, prominent Austin philanthropists.

AUSTIN, TexasThe Photography Program in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Austin will receive gifts totaling $800,000 from William and Bettye Nowlin, prominent Austin philanthropists.

The William and Bettye Nowlin Endowed Professorship in Photography has been established with the first $300,000 of the Nowlin gift. As the gift is completed, the William and Bettye Nowlin Faculty Research and Travel Endowment in Photography will be created with $300,000 and dedicated to the support of faculty research and travel. Also, $200,000 of the gift will create the William and Bettye Nowlin Endowed Presidential Fellowship to support graduate study in the Photography Program.

The mission of the Department of Art and Art History is to provide the state of Texas and the nation with well-educated and highly qualified artists, scholars, designers and teachers. The department is committed to building and extending the knowledge and skill base of scholarly research and creative experimentation from which future developments in the production and understanding of the visual arts can emerge. Additionally, the department is committed to providing artistic experiences in the visual arts for audiences of all ages.
