Longhorn Scholars to be honored at reception Wednesday

More than 260 Longhorn Scholars will be honored during a reception from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday (Sept. 25) in Room 21 of the Flawn Academic Center at The University of Texas at Austin where they will meet with university President Larry R. Faulkner and Provost Sheldon Ekland-Olson.

AUSTIN, TexasMorethan 260 Longhorn Scholars will be honored during a reception from 4-6 p.m.,Wednesday (Sept. 25) in Room 21 of the Flawn Academic Center at The Universityof Texas at Austin where they will meet with university President LarryR. Faulkner and Provost Sheldon Ekland-Olson.

Longhorn Scholars is a four-year honors program for top 10percent students from selected Texas high schools whose graduates have historicallybeen underrepresented at The University of Texas at Austin. All LonghornScholars have been awarded scholarships to attend the university.

The reception is sponsored by Connexus, a program that providesopportunities for students, including the Longhorn Scholars, to make connectionswith other students, the faculty and services provided by the university.

Longhorn scholars enjoy numerous benefits throughout theirfour years at The University of Texas at Austin, including advising supportfrom the Connexus office, peer support through the Longhorn Scholars mentoringprogram, participation in special community events, enrollment in classestaught by members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers and opportunitiesto participate in faculty research programs.
