AUSTIN, Texas—Charles Davidson, a 1997 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, has created a $25,000 endowment aimed at providing scholarships in Latin American studies for students in South Texas and the border region.
The Davidson Family Endowed Scholarship in Latin American Studies will benefit the College of Liberal Arts and will provide financial aid for students majoring or minoring in Latin American studies.
Davidson’s employer, AXA, will provide matching funds to make the $25,000 total. The endowment will generate funds for an annual scholarship of about $1,100.
“I want to help those motivated to pursue higher education and who need financial support,” said Davidson, who was graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in economics.
Priority consideration will be given to students who are fluent in more than one language or are the first generation in their family to attend college.
In addition, first preference will be given to students from the following Texas counties: Atascosa, Bee, Bexar, Brooks, Dimmit, Duval, Cameron, El Paso, Frio, Goliad, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Karnes, Kenedy, Kinney, Kleberg, La Salle, Live Oak, Maverick, McMullen, Medina, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Uvalde, Val Verde, Victoria, Webb, Willacy, Wilson, Zapata and Zavala.
