AUSTIN, Texas—Dr. Ted Rappaport, professor of electrical and computer engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, has been invited to serve on the Technological Advisory Council of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The council will provide technical advice to the FCC and make recommendations on issues and questions from government officials. Council members provide input to the FCC chairman, chief engineers and technologists in the Office of Engineering and Technology, and/or other designated officials. Dr. Rappaport’s appointment is for an initial two-year term.
Dr. Rappaport has authored, co-authored or co-edited 13 books in wireless communication, including “Wireless Communications: Principles and Practice,” which is in use at more than 100 universities and scores of companies worldwide. He joined The University of Texas at Austin in fall 2002 after having founded and directed one of the nation’s leading wireless research and educational groups at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Rappaport’s research develops new methods for analyzing and developing wireless broadband network access and portable Internet access. He is the founder of the Wireless Networking and Communications Group at The University of Texas at Austin.
