AUSTIN, Texas—The University of Texas at Austin Center for Performance Excellence (UTCPE) has presented the Directorate of Logistics, Fort Hood, Texas with the highest award presented to any of the 10 Central Texas companies vying for a 2003 UTCPE Performance Excellence Award.
The award is based on the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Criteria and the Baldrige National Quality Award program, which were established by the U.S. Congress in 1987 to recognize superior performance in business, health care, education and government.
Dr. Thomas M. Hatfield, chairman of the UTCPE board of directors and dean of The University of Texas at Austin’s Division of Continuing and Extended Education, presented the UTCPE Level III Significant Achievement Award to Colonel Robert J. Hauser Jr., director of logistics at Fort Hood, during an awards ceremony and banquet on Monday, Nov. 3 on the university campus.
In winning the Level III Significant Achievement Award, the directorate demonstrated that it operates with efficiency in seven key areas: leadership, strategic planning, customer service and market focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, human resource focus, process management and business results.
“By applying the Baldrige criteria to our organization and challenging continuous improvements, we expect to gain efficiencies that make us better stewards of taxpayers’ dollars,” said Natha Grigsby, management analyst for the Directorate of Logistics at Fort Hood.
Three other organizations—Celerity Group Inc., Green Mountain Energy Company and Cactus Ranch Elementary School of the Round Rock Independent School District—also competed for a Level III award. Celerity Group Inc. received the Level III Progress Award. Green Mountain Energy Company and Cactus Ranch Elementary School received the UTCPE Level III Commitment Award.
Organizations receiving a Level I Commitment Award were: Austin Community College Information Technology-Operations, Bluebonnet Elementary (Round Rock Independent School District), Oak Hill Technology, Inc.; Even Start Family Literacy Program (Taylor Independent School District), Directorate of Community Activities at Fort Hood and the Williamson Baptist Association.
