AUSTIN, Texas—The Hispanic Faculty/Staff Association (HFSA) of The University of Texas at Austin will honor its outstanding members from the faculty and staff during an awards and officer induction ceremony Wednesday, June 15, in Main 212.
The HFSA faculty and staff awards recognize outstanding contributions and leadership benefiting the university community and the organization. Professor Martha N. Ovando Villanueva of the Department of Educational Administration, College of Education, will be recognized as the 2004-05 HFSA Faculty Member of the Year. Vincent Perez III, communications/marketing manager for the McDonald Observatory, College of Natural Sciences, will be honored as the 2004-05 HFSA Staff Member of the Year.
Also during the meeting, the HFSA Faculty/Staff Professional Development Award will be presented to Yvonne Fuentes, student affairs administrator with the Office of the Dean of Students. The award provides $250 for the organization member to pursue educational or skills development programs in the interest of promoting professional development.
The HFSA each year also raises money toward a scholarship fund benefiting students at The University of Texas at Austin. The winner of the HFSA—Joe and Teresa Lozano Long Scholarship this year is Melissa Pons, senior accounting major, who will be recognized during the event.
New HFSA officers to be inducted during the meeting are: Professor Norma Cantu, faculty co-president; Robert Meckel, staff co-president; Sylvia Jean, treasurer; Juanita Rodriguez, historian; Aurora Chang-Ross, recorder; Luis Guevara, public relations coordinator; Professor Jose Luis Montiel, faculty co-president elect; and Peter Guzman, staff co-president elect.
