AUSTIN, Texas—Dr. Soncia Lilly, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs administration at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) since 2000, has been named senior associate vice president and dean of students at The University of Texas at Austin, Juan C. González, the university’s vice president for student affairs, said today (Jan. 11).

Lilly will assume the position on April 17. She will fill a vacancy created when Teresa Brett resigned as associate vice president for student affairs on Dec. 31. Brett had held that position since April 2002.
“I am extremely pleased that Dr. Lilly has accepted this position,” González said. “She was chosen from a distinguished field of applicants, and I am confident her contributions and leadership will enhance the goals of the Division of Student Affairs.”
Lilly said, “I’m extremely honored to join The University of Texas at Austin team and look forward to continuing to build quality services that enhance the educational experience for all students.”
Lilly has worked directly (as the chief financial officer and chief administrative officer) with the vice chancellor for student affairs at UCLA in providing general direction for the entire student affairs unit, which consists of three divisions—Student Development and Health, Student and Campus Life and Student Academic Services. This operation includes 800 staff members in 28 departments, with a budget of about $89 million.
Lilly earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of California, Irvine in 1986, and a master of arts in education degree from California State University, San Bernardino, in 1991. She received her doctor’s degree in educational administration from the University of Southern California in 1999.
