AUSTIN, Texas—John Dalton, assistant dean of students and director for student judicial services, has been appointed assistant dean of graduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dalton, who begins his new job Jan. 23, will fill a position left vacant by the retirement of Char Dison, who has served in the position since 2001.

Dalton will be responsible for overseeing many aspects of services for graduate students, including orientation, registration, degree evaluation and graduation.

“John brings a wealth of experience in university administration and student services to the Graduate School,” said Victoria Rodriguez, vice provost and dean of graduate studies. “He is well-known across campus for his professionalism and knowledge of the university and we are very fortunate to have him join our team.”

Prior to coming to the university in 2000 as director for new students services, Dalton was director for student judicial services and director for orientation and special programs at the University of Florida. Dalton earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Radford University in Virginia and is working toward a doctor’s degree in educational administration at the university.

“I look forward to continuing the fine work of the student services section in the Office of Graduate Studies and to exploring opportunities for new initiatives in the office,” said Dalton. “Char and the staff have been most welcoming and I expect a very smooth transition.”
