AUSTIN, Texas—“The Vagina Monologues” returns to The University of Texas at Austin campus for performances Feb. 25 at Burdine Hall and March 3 and 4 at the LBJ Auditorium.

The university’s production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues,” a tapestry of true stories portraying a multi-racial, many-faceted range of women and their experiences, joins more than 1,100 colleges and communities that will be presenting benefit performances in 54 countries.

Ana Ixchel Rosal, director of the Gender and Sexuality Center, said students believe “The Vagina Monologues” helps educate audiences because it addresses ignored subjects and important issues usually considered taboo. It helps to open difficult but necessary conversations about issues regarding gender and sexuality.

“People often don’t want to talk about the issues facing lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer (LGBTQ) students here on the campus,” said Rosal. “The Gender and Sexuality Center supports student groups and efforts to educate and increase awareness about women and LGBTQ issues, and is a co-sponsor of ‘The Vagina Monologues.’”

“This show is a powerful opportunity to open conversation about the issues that face every woman,” Rosal said. “On a college campus, people should have the opportunity to talk about women’s issues as well as the issues facing LGBTQ.”

Tickets cost $8 and may be purchased on the West Mall. Proceeds from “The Vagina Monologues” benefit SafePlace.
