AUSTIN, Texas—Dr. Judith Langlois, the Charles and Sarah Seay Regents’ Professor of Developmental Psychology, has been named interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.
She will assume the post being vacated by Dr. Richard Lariviere, who will leave the college on June 1 to become provost and executive vice chancellor for the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Langlois previously served as interim dean for the college in 1998.
Sheldon Ekland-Olson, executive vice president and provost of the university, will convene a search committee to select a permanent replacement for Lariviere.
“We are very fortunate that Judy has agreed to serve as interim dean,” Ekland-Olson said. “She is a distinguished member of the faculty who commands the deep respect of her colleagues. Judy has served in this role before, and her experience and guidance will be invaluable.”
Langlois is the director of the Langlois Lab in Psychology and is a member of the Children’s Research Laboratory. She is a leading researcher in children’s social development, with a focus on the origins of social stereotypes.
