AUSTIN, Texas—Dr. Ruth McRoy, an adoption expert in the School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin, has been named an inaugural member of a new senior research fellows program at the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute.

McRoy has spent more than 20 years researching such topics as open adoptions, adoptive parents and adopted children, trans-racial adoptions, special needs adoption and family preservation. She is the author of seven books on the subject.

The Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute, a nonprofit organization based in New York, focuses on policy, research and education in the field of adoption. The institute dedicates itself to improving adoption policy and practice. McRoy joins eight other nationally known adoption researchers in the new fellows program.

“The new senior fellows will enhance and expand the initiatives of the Adoption Institute by contributing their knowledge and expertise and by providing substantive content from their research and experience,” said Executive Director Adam Pertman. “This extraordinary group of professionals will assist us in our efforts on the vitally important issues that affect tens of millions of children and families in our country every day.”

McRoy holds the titles of research professor and Ruby Lee Piester Centennial Professor Emerita in the School of Social Work. She can be reached by e-mail at r.mcroy@mail.utexas.edu.
