The University of Texas at Austin Child Development Center’s Comal location received recognition by the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs (NAC) on Sept. 4. This recognizes the center’s superior quality in the care of young children.

Hara Cootes, site director of the Comal center, says, “Recognition by NAC demonstrates our commitment to providing a quality educational environment conducive to children’s development.”

NAC accreditation follows an evaluation process that includes self-study, observation by an early childhood professional and assessments by national commissioners.

“This distinction affirms what we’ve been working toward since the Comal center opened two years ago,” says Sandy Briley, director of the Child Development Center. “We’re proud to see our staff and families successfully create an educational setting that serves as a model program for the Austin child care community.”

Both of the Child Development Center’s locations, including the original San Jacinto center, are now accredited. These centers offer services to university and UT System employees, as well as students, with children six weeks to five years of age.
