In recent years, Mexican trucks crossing the border with the United States were no more likely to be taken out of service because of safety or other violations than American trucks, according to preliminary results of a review of thousands of Texas Department of Public Safety inspection reports. The review was conducted by the Center for Transportation Research at the University of Texas, Austin. ”The problem on the interstates is too many trucks,” said Robert Harrison, deputy director of the center, ”not too many Mexican trucks. As long as the inspections are adequate and in force, we have little to fear.”
